Ellenwood Park
This week with family here my siblings our family and our dogs hiked Ellenwood Park. We all had been watching a video our friend and neighbour Marcia Richardson had about Braemar Lodge, and we all realized it had been awhile since we'd visited as a group next door to the old Lodge property - in what is now a lovely Provincial Park.
Norma and I and our daughter and her family go to Ellenwood often to x-c ski or to bike ride, but just the walking around the Park is so pretty and peaceful it is worth doing. Bob used to have bird projects going on here, and I led tours several times here, so it was fun to visit as a small group with ties to the place.
The park is a great picnicking area, with supervised swimming in summer no less, and then there is the camping ground loop - a great place to walk the dogs and keep in the cool shade of the lovely wooded trails.
I sometimes marvel that many Nova Scotians don't take advantage of the beautiful Parks right in their own back yards - and Ellenwood is certainly among the loveliest of the gems.
A wonderful spot for, as BIll Bryson might say, a walk in the woods.
