Maple Leaves

Early Foliage
Out for a walk in the woods this last week and I was a bit jolted to see some early maples already turning colour. I love the season of foliage changing, and I know swamp maples, particularly older ones along the banks of places I love to go late-season fly fishing are the first to change, but to me there is still another week of summer left!
Soon, it will be time to look for the beautiful foliage, though, and look as cousin Henry David did in 1862 when he wrote:
"How beautiful, when a whole tree is like one great scarlet fruit full of ripe juices, every leaf, from lowest limb to topmost spire, all aglow, especially if you look toward the sun!"
— Henry David Thoreau, Autumnal Tints
