Lockeport High School staff reunion (taught at least some years from) 1980 to 2000
Lockeport
Throwback Thursday is on a Friday this week (and next, stay tuned)!
Lockeport Schools edition:
45 years ago this week, Norma and I moved from the Annapolis Valley to Lockeport where I had accepted a teaching job as a Social Studies and English teacher to Grades 7 to 12. We ended up staying there 21 years, with me teaching for 15 years and being a Principal at Port LaTour for one year, working for the Federal Government on an internationally acclaimed school improvement initiative for 2 years, and then doing a 3 year stint as a technology integration consultant- teaching teachers to use technology in their classrooms.
The Federal project had me writing about our exceptional staff and the things we did to support and encourage students- which ended up virtually eliminating kids dropping out and created a 98% average daily attendance. This worked because of the close knit and dedicated staff, and when I became Director for the School Board, and we moved to Yarmouth County for the last 10 years of my formal teaching career, it was something I tried to encourage all schools to attempt.
Sandra Walsh, one of our cohort of teachers formerly at LRHS, wanted to have a bit of a reunion for her husband Steve’s 40th anniversary of first coming to Lockeport High School and so yesterday we all met up over lunch in Lockeport and had a wonderful time. Stories flowed and old acquaintances were rekindled- a most magical day. The image shows we’ve aged, but we all still have the passion for our profession and our personal connections still run deep!
