Family Times
Family circumstances, as my sister would say, have led me to be thinking about my parents a lot this week. Really kind of amazing when I remember that it was 40 years ago that they bought the family home at Pelican Pointe in Sebastian, a place Norma and I will hopefully be going to soon.
My siblings and I got thinking about our childhoods and how Mom and Dad had moved us a number of times, mostly from Groton to Concord and Westford (all in Massachusetts), but thrown in there was a time in Holland for me (before my brother and sister were born) and our ski chalet in Londonderry, Vermont. Then came the big move to Nova Scotia where Dad had been born and brought up – the move occurring when I was a young teen. I graduated from Acadia University 50 years ago, married and began my career in education shortly after. The rest of my family moved back to the USA, both of my siblings and my parents, and it was then that Mom and Dad bought into Pelican Pointe, and a few years later bought the time share in the Turks and Caicos – something they did with Dad at the age I am now. Looking forward to family fun in the sun! Norma and I got to experience that three times before the time share was sold, and it was a most gorgeous, but quite pricey, place to spend a week's vacation with Mom and Dad.
As Norma, Sam and I are packing to go to Sebastian, we’ll visit our daughter and her family in Dartmouth, who will join us in Florida for a week in March, and on the trip down we’ll see my parents, my siblings and hopefully a couple of cousins. That will be fun – it makes the trip slower, but family time is the best time.
