Anniversary Picnic on our Beach!
The End of 2017
For the last blog of this year, I thought I’d simply share my favourite image of the year and explain a bit about it.
Taken on our wedding anniversary, number 41 for Norma and me, this image is a favourite just because of who it shows and what we’re doing and where we’re doing it. My daughter Marsha brought her husband Josh and our Grandson Theo down for the weekend, and thought we should have a beach cookout on our beach - our home sits overlooking the Bay of Fundy and the Gulf of Maine, and we own almost 900 feet of beach. Marsha has always enjoyed picnics, and this year we had picnics on the family island in the Chebogue River, a wonderful picnic for Theo’s birthday at Albro Lake in Dartmouth, NS and a memorable picnic just this week – indoors in our home for Christmas dinner as we lost power and had to improvise a gas grill into an oven to finish the turkey dinner and all the fixings! This anniversary picnic was perfect, though, because we all love the beach, and Marsha made us hot dogs and s’mores! I can’t think of a more perfect way to celebrate our marriage than by celebrating it with our daughter and her family.
Photography can be done anywhere, and often we go far afield looking for inspiration or something “new” to photograph, but just as often the most special moments, those that make the best images, are simple photographs of life. The recording of history and of special events, big or small, is to me a fundamental part of what makes photography so special.
May you and your family have a wonderful, peaceful and joyous 2018 !
